Are stock exhausts the same across the H2 model range?

Thanx, Rusty34

Thank you! From what I am seeing in searching around, having stock exhaust rechromed can be risky due to weakening the welds during the polishing operation. Is it possible to rechrome stock exhaust or would it best to try to find a good used pipe and don't try to get it rechromed?

Thanx, Rusty34

Finding a really nice stock pipe can be very difficult and expensive.
Stock pipes can be rechromed successfully but that depends on the condition of the pipes to begin with and your choice of chromers. Unless complete originality is an issue, the best thing is to get a new set of expansion chambers.... less weight, improved performance, no dents, less expensive.

Thank you, that's great advice. I think I am going to end up having two H2's. I want one I can fix up to ride and enjoy that doesn't need to be all original and that one will get chambers and non-original parts, etc., while the other H2B will be my factory original project for the sense of accomplishment if nothing else I guess.

I'll probably start going to swapmeets and shows, etc., to look for parts. Barber Motorsports is a pretty big show and it's coming up soon so maybe start there. First order of business is find a good RS Upper exhaust (or all three if nec) for H2B. Are numbers stamped on the pipes somewhere to identify H2B/C model or other identifying features?

Thanx, Rusty34

The way to identify h2b/c pipes from h2/h2a pipes, the rear mounting bracket is bolted to the muffler. 72-73 h2 has welded on rear mounting brackets.

I would bide your time, several people are in the process of making 74/75 pipes now

Many thanks to all!! Now I know what to look for in the fleamarket and if I don't find something suitable at a reasonable cost I'll just wait for the repro's.

Since these are all two-piece pipes, it may be beneficial to know that the "header pipes" differ along with the muffler/years mentioned earlier. If looking at the 'profile' view, H2B and -C header pipes curve almost immediately off of the cylinder port; whereas the two earlier versions run a short distance Straight before its bending to meet its muffler. (early ones worth at least .03 HP increase)
