I forgot i had these pictures from last year. I know some body will be wondering this.

I used the cheapest spray paint i could find at Freds. This tank started pretty rough. I spent hours sanding because i smoother over the emblem holders. But it is all about preparation and wet sanding work.

I tried several methods including a spray can of clear coat (didn't work out) and wet sanding the paint after dry(didn't work out). So average to good final preparation and a couple coats just sprayed on and nothing else produced this. You end up with a slight texture but a good shine .

Warning if you spill fuel on the paint it will rub off, but if you are careful of that, it is pretty durable. And you can always touch it up fairly easy. But paint it the correct way if you have the means.

You can buy cans of 2k clear coat from Eastwood that have the actual hardener and are fuel safe. That is what I have done on mine. Also, texture can be eliminated with some good wetsanding and polishing.

My results using rattlecans. I have smoothed the clear up significantly since I took this pic.

Here was where I started:

Good job there.

I can't throw stones at rattle can paint. The color shifting paint I had on mine was all out of a rattle can and it looked good. The bad side was the clear wasn't gas resistant. You always had to be careful filling it up.

Florida Steve did a nice job on a KZ650 with the Duplicolor MetalSpecs. Maybe he will post his results. I am planning to use their Shimmering Green and a set of RB's decals, with a little luck it may come out like this...

I learned that the really cheap rattle can paint just doesn't sand good. I tried wet sanding after it was good and dry and it ruined it and i had to start over. And the cheap rattle can clear coat isn't worth the dollar it cost, had to start over after trying that also.

Hard to beat those above...and this pic isn't close enough to assess the job but, I did my RD with rattle can and it turned out pretty good.

I believe Ja-Moo's calendar winning H1 was done with spray cans.
