I was checking electrical and I could not get the Neutral lamp on the instrument panel. Checked wiring and connectors and swapped bulbs. I finally found out that the bulb is good and the socket works. The switch was open all the time. I pulled it out and took a look. This is what I found:
It may not be obvious but there is supposed to be a copper "wiper" that contacts a screw on the shift drum when the trans is in neutral. It took me a few minutes to sort all that out. Then I went looking in parts bins for something to make a new contact/wiper out of. I found the copper spark plug connector also shown in the picture.
A little cutting and a little drilling and hardly any bending and this was born:
Here it is from the other view. It shorted against the case on the first try but I made a small adjustment and it worked very well.
I did not even check availability. Maybe these are only $1 but I had that creative urge so I just followed through. Maybe this will help someone in a pinch.
