Which one of these is the correct color? Or is there that much variation?

Depending on the camera, lighting, flash/no flash etc. etc, they "could" be the same colour!!

As with ALL Kawasaki paints from the era, each batch, could, and often would be a different shade to the rest, the greens are particularly bad for this, H1d/e are a lore unto themselves, as are S1b and S3a, The H2 Greens tend to be pretty uniform though, and as Rod points out, the lighting and type of photo will never give an accurate version of the colour. Oh, this particular Green is one of the versions that will fade all by itself even in a closed cardboard box

Modern 2-pack clear over base paint systems are a lot better than the old type paints Kawasaki used back then, and any colour is able to be matched!

So, as I suspected, they're ALL Spartacus! Since I'm not doing a concourse restoration it really doesn't matter if it's "right" but these two seem to be at the extremes. For some strange reason I'm drawn to the dune buggy metal flake overload! It's bright and fits with the era. And I have a pretty close match with the Duplicolor MetalSpecs rattlecan. This stuff gives a different shade depending on the color of the primer, a flat black primer gives almost a match for my H1E while light grey primer comes pretty close to the pic above. I just hope it doesn't cause difficulty keeping an even shade across the whole tank. I think Florida Steve had good results with this paint so it's worth a try. Of course if I don't like how it comes out, I won't put the decals on until I like it!

Definitely go with the Bass-Boat Sparkle...... The other tank was probably much brighter when new and I think the fading RB mentioned is the culprit.

You don't HAVE to wear the bell-bottoms and the polyester shirt but it would make the tank more authentic...
