Well maybe not fixed, but made it a whole lot better.
Apparently, the original oil check valves have allowed enough oil to drain into the engine so that it was harder to start (from 3 kicks to 5 or 6) and, it ran like a complete pig until warm (zero power although not super smokey at low throttle openings)

The problem just slowly developed and I assumed it was due to wear.
Odly enough, the oil leakage didn't seem to get much worse after 1 day or 3 months.

Either way, it's much better now.
I'm sure that the power of suggestion also makes it feel like it runs a bit crisper too.
Thanks for fixing these Joe.

I truly am only glad that I could help. It made a quite a difference in how mine ran, thought I could help others. Joe Byrd

just curious - did he clean and set spring pressure slightly higher? (was it 4 psi or something? I can't remember now)
