how do get the tacho gromet over the cable end ?.
or do you cut it then slip around the cable then slip it into the cover hole.?

You could try putting the grommet in a bowl of piping hot water and softening it up.
I bought a repro one from Greg Claus and it was twice as stiff as an OEM one.
Havent tackled using it yet, but thats what I am going to try.
Perhaps a drop of vegetable oil in the hole would also help.

The ones that Rick sells are slit.
Really can't see it when mounted.

Thats correct. What I have done was to cut it nicly and apply some glue afterwards but really not needed. :e11

No need to cut the grommet.
Lube with WD and start at the tach end and work down. It will go over the spring with no issues.
