Is there any way of cleaning and treating too stop the rust getting worse? or at least slowing it right down.
Theres not enough rust too warrant the likes of POR15 in my oppinion. But if theres no other option?

I bought a gallon of Evaporust for my H2 rebuild. If you put something in a container of it and leave it (say) overnight, the rust will be gone. With a tank, I haven't done mine yet, seal the cap and tap ends, and leave a good amount in there, slosh it around a lot and in a day or so, the rust will be gone. ( Then I would fill it with pre-mix to store it.) Evaporust is good and it works!! I have no shares or interest in the company - It just worked for me!

No matter what you use be sure to store with fuel/oil mix or it will rust again. Ask me how I know. :( Whatever chemical you use will leave the metal etched and very susceptible to rusting in normal atmosphere.

One of the best things about "Evaporust" is that it leaves a coating that actually inhibits the tank from rusting later on.
I treated the tank for my H1 2 years ago and as most folks know, it is still on the table waiting to be completed.
The tank does not have any rust inside yet.
I filled the tank with the product and just kept turning it every day or so, to be sure all sides got treated.
The future rust prevention is one of the things Evaporust touts in its advertising.

+1, 111, It really does the job well. Got a lot of small parts sitting in a slurry of Evaporust - they ain't gonna rust!

and it works good on odd shaped things such as shocks..toss em in and let it work for a day or so...
and one benefit---- no bad odors from the process

What if you already have your tank painted and it's showing a little rust inside? I assume Evaporust is not friendly to paint.
