Guys,
I am the new 3rd owner of a purple H2A. The bike is in great condition and highly restorable. The 2nd owner stored the bike in his shed for 12 years. It was never started. There was premix in the tank when the bike was stored and while there is no rust inside, the fuel evaporated into a goopy mess with black crud stuck to floor of the tank. I sloshed a good bit of it out using fresh gas. Wondering if anyone has some advice to get the rest of the nasty stuff out without damaging the original paint, which isn't perfect but pretty nice. By the way, I have no intentions of starting the bike. The engine is going to get stripped and the crank is going out for rebuild. Hoping to hear it run next Spring. Thanks for any comments!

Acetone usually dissolves that goop, but try it on an inconspicuous spot if you're concerned about damaging the paint. I've also used lacquer thinner.

Evaporust will dissolve and remove it. I've used it dozens of times for this. Only laquer thinner is better for the goopy gas itself but you will mess up the paint for sure.

Guts,
You nailed it.
The inside of my tank looks amazing!

For those who want to try Evaporust, this isn't a 24 or 48 hour process like you might be lead to believe by reading the instructions on the label.
Buy enough of the product to fill the tank and forget about it for a couple of weeks. You will be happy with the results.

Plus one for evaporust. I bought 5 gallons and used it full strength and it worked wonders on my Gray Ghost RZ tank. Followed up with a good dose of Caswell tank sealer.
