Very nice, exactly what I'm looking for. Is the black of the stripe and the numbers truly black? Do you have a good picture of the Kawasaki name for the tank?

Thanks,

Dave

The black is indeed a nice black.
Here are the tank decals. They are still covered in the transfer tape pending install.

It was hazy hot humid, and a bit smoky today. I verified that I had spark on all the plugs and all the electrical worked. I replaced some of the seals in the petcock and put 2 new filter screens on it. Diaphragm is working well. Final cleaning of carbs and set all the floats to 24.5mm and cables adjusted. I added a gallon of 93 octane mixed with a friends Motul 2 stroke oil from his racing go kart.
It is definitely not my favorite kick starter setup, but did a 2 minute run and shut it down to check it over. Some mosquitos may have been harmed making this video.

Sounds like a plug was fouled.

I had replaced the seals and filters in the petcock and put in gas to check to make sure there were no fuel leaks.
My friend was closing the shop for the night, and I just gave it a quick start attempt for 2 minutes before heading home. It was running quite rich, and never had time to warm up, smoked heavy on all 3 cylinders. I have work to do yet, but it will all come together.

Get rid of premix.

You are probably right mraxl, could be too much oil in the mix.
The start was not as interesting as my GT380's was after rebuild. I had the bike all set up, gave it a kick and it sprang to life for a whole 15 seconds.
After a bit of checking, I found the nylon gear Suzuki used to turn the points had crumbled. A year sooner that would have been a minor issue, as there were quite a few available. When mine went, the old stock and aftermarket were pretty much depleted. It took me 2 months before I was able to track one down, at 4 times the usual selling price.
Labor day update. I gave things a check this weekend, and wore my reading glasses. Seems I had incorrect gap on 2 of the plugs, all 3 have good spark. That's what happens when squeezing in work on the bike while helping my friend in his shop. Should explain why those cylinders were off from the good one. Compression is good all around. Next start when tank decals are finished being clear coated should be better. I'll dilute the premix quite a bit also.

The stress of the decals is over and came out great. The tank was of course the toughest. I studied as many pictures as I could find on the net to get them as accurate as possible. My painter will clear coat them when he returns from Labor day vacation.

Looks great. I'm going to be doing the same thing sometime this year. Did you make any specific measurements from a reference point or just eyeball it? Are the stripes on the tank parallel to something like the frame or level with the ground?

The guys at the factory didn't try very hard to make them all the same, so trying to exactly copy the factory is futile.
