Do yourself a favor and send the crank out for rebuilding. You will want to start with a solid foundation and the initial cost, while  will be forgotten when you are finished and enjoying it.

 Must mean expensive, how much?

The seals don't go bad from miles, they go bad from being nearly 50 years old.

I realize rubber doesn't last more than about 20 years, even the ones covered by engine covers (outside side) but especially the ones sitting with oil on them (inside side).

A crank rebuild is somewhere in the $500-$1,000 range. We have a couple skilled and honest rebuilders here in the US, but you'll be better off asking on the Canadian board to find someone closer who is known to do good work.

I've already joined the TriplesCanada site. Thanks.
I need to be enlightened on the crank rebuild. Having worked in one capacity or another in the mechanical field for thirty years, I have a good understanding of mechanical fundamentals and failures. I understand that after certain mileages or high stresses (ie racing) fatigue can set in and failures happen. Is there something about this engine that at 9000 miles the crank will need to be rebuilt? If all the journals are good, what would be done to the crank to rebuild it. I'm not trying to be cheap (although I am in some ways) I'm just trying to understand.

The crank is pressed together, so to change the seals is has to be disassembled. At that point it can be measured and inspected, and if there are any other problems they can be corrected.

Tackling the easy stuff first. Original exhaust is solid, happy about that. Most of the chrome has some pitting but most of it can be polished out. Previous owner seems to have scratched some of it (chain guard and mufflers) with too coarse a steel wool.
Polished, waxed and now stored for winter.

Ah, the internal seals, I didn't know that was the only way to change them. All of my 2 strokes up until now have been one lungers.

I was just reading a tech article. It says to work on the engine, you have to take it apart before removing it from the frame. Can it not come out in one piece?
