Hello Forum Members,

I pulled my first master cylinder apart today as it had a stuck piston.

I took a common 90 degree pick and got the clip off holding the boot on and removed the boot.

Need to clean out the dirt to get to the clip that requires the special snap ring pliers which I didn't have so I took a small needle nose pliers and ground down the tips with a file and bents the tips as shown in the photo which is necessary to get the to work properly.

It took a couple of tries but it finally came out. Since the piston was stuck it wasn't in the way, no need to hold it down.

I had to take a small punch from the other side to tap out the piston and the rest of the guts.

What a mess it was in there as you can see by the pictures. There is some corrosion in the piston area and quite a bit in the reservoir, but should be okay to use.

I had to use a very small Dremel drill to open up the return hole as it was completely blocked. It's a very small hole and if it gets blocked there is no where for the pressure to relieve to allow the calipers to open. If it's blocked you will have a dragging front brake.

I am going to put in a OEM Kawasaki kit which replaces all the parts.

All in all it was pretty easy to take it apart. Hope it goes back together as easily.
