An easy way to lube a cable like that is with a spray grease with a little tube on the nozzle, and one of those little adapters that clamps to the end of the cable and has a rubber fitting you stick the little tube in.
You can also mix some grease with varsol (aka mineral spirits), hang the cable up, and dribble the liquid grease in.
Some guys prefer dry lubes like molybdenum disulfide.
Thanks Jim. I have that cable spray adapter thingy! So I'll use spray grease.. Wasn't sure if there was a 'preferred' kind or not. I have a can of white lithium grease as well as a can of
liquid wrench chain lube-- it says ok to use on wire cables, but I dunno if it is suitable for this cable...
