Post subject: | clutch problems |
i installed a 8 friction and 7 steel plate clutch from Barnett. clutch was slipping heavy even at 1/4 throttle. measured the original plate package 315 mm and the Barnett 295 mm. Mike from Barnet said it looks like my basket is not original and i should try fitting 2 pcs. 2 mm steel plates to get to 315 mm. Image 1 is the Barnett cluch fitted and the band around the basket removed. Image 3 is barnett clutch with 1 2mm H2 steel plate and 2x 1mm Barnett plates to get the desired 2mm extra. I did not have another good 2mm plate. As you can see i cannot fit the band around the basket all the way to the end. so my questions: barnett sais they sold hunderds of the kits and never had this problem, is my basket not original? How deep is an original basket? Any suggestions how to proceed? |

Something is odd about yours... I've never seen grinding marks on a stock one, and yours has them all over the fingers. Get a measurement of the total height of your basket and someone here with one that's not installed can give you a stock measurement. |

Thanks Jim. Did some measurements, image 3 = 45,4 mm, 2 = 34,5-35 mm, 1 = 37 mm. can anyone confirm if my basket is stock. if not can you give me stock sizes? |

There should be a long tang friction plate after the ring and short tang friction. |

The tangs are the parts of the friction plates that stick through the fingers of the outer hub. The second friction is supposed to have shorter tangs to go under the ring, and the first should have the long tangs to keep the ring from slipping off. |

Right, it looks like the outer two plates are reversed, keeping the ring from being in the right place. But still, the basket fingers look really long for some reason. |

Does he possibly have a modified clutch hub with .030 removed so he can run H1 steels AKA the 15 plate clutch mod? |

I see 15 plates there, but I've never seen them end up so far inside the ends of the basket fingers. |
