I haven't actually seen too many broken welds on old Triples frames, regardless of how they look! :eh:

Me either they normally crack right next to the welds, as H2s do at engine mounts etc, with painting the frame I have Sean good results using spray cans of high gloss enamel, keep posting progress

Hey, Al, did you get my E-mail response, I've been having a major computer glitch lately, since fixed, so I missed a fair bit of stuff!? (Sorry to but-in 2stroke!!)

little by little.
Its amazing, all the little things I forgot about that needed attention. The axle assembly on the sprocket side messed up years ago and I never got it right back then. I spent a few hours making just the right spacers and I was even able to modify a dust cover from a steering head assembly to be a cover for the bearings there where the collar comes thru. The wheel spins smooth as glass.

I put the rear wheel on, still the old tire. Ill take care of that at some point. Or not. Just want to get it off the ground. Waiting on fork seals in order to be able to put the front end back on.

I've subscribed to this thread. I'll probably start my own thread eventually (as I have a '72 S2 resto happening concurrently). But we'll see. Things take a long time!!
Anyways,
Keep the pics coming! Looking good!

Things like the tires....some of the $$ stuff, I have to wait on. I didnt want things like that to hold me up for now.
Handlebars are cheap enough but I put the old ones on for now so I can roll it around the shop at least.

The rear tire has a story behind it, but its totally me.
It had continentals on it when I bought it 25 years ago or so. (I only ever had it on the road for about 4 years--up until about 4 years ago.)
The rear started cracking pretty bad during the time I actually rode it. I was at a motocross race and I was at the tracks power washer at the end of the day and there was the usual pile of tires there. I saw that tire, it was an 18 and I grabbed it. It had a thin nail like thing thru it...I put an inner tube in it and used it. The front is still the old Continental. Great tread, but some sidewall cracking so it needs done as well. Point is if I had to wait for the cash for tires it would be sitting there...and as it comes together I get more excited about it and am more apt to work on it.

Rear brakes as well...as I put the wheel on, I remembered the rear shoes are near the end of their wear. Ill do those when I put the tire on the back.

Ive got the wiring harness on the bench now. Its a mess.
Guess I could sort the carbs out next. Its hard to pick whats next sometimes.

When it comes time for the bodywork paint, Ill have to make some decisions. Im going to see how affordable taking the pieces to an autobody place will be.
I have a lot of family in the business and can probably get a break. I can do a reasonable rattle can job but I want better this time.

Heres some more pics. Ill polish things up a little more as I go along as well. Again, this is more of a build than a resto....

I went to a swap meet today and picked up some new tires for it. An IRC front and a cheng shin rear.

Ive started on the electrical system , running new wires everywhere. original harness was wrecked when I first got the bike 20 some years ago...Im MUCH better this time around and the wiring will be clean and tidy, and rock solid.

The original gauges are in bad shape. I had been using a set from a Kaw enduro. This time around, I have a nice set from my XT500....I cleaned them up and am going to use those. They fit well. And I have proper harness connectors for them.

Yeah sounds sketchy but what else am I gonna do? spend the $$ on a decent set of originals? just can now.

I may have a set of H1 gauges ( at least they fit a triple) and a gauge pod yours for the cost of shipping . I will look in my parts pile.
