Does anyone have a checklist to diagnose a tach that was working fine and then stopped after running 5 minutes (just in neutral on side stand).

Bike is 1974 500 H1E.

Tach is really good shape but if needs to be redone is there a guy that does them?

I don't mean this as an insult, but have you verified that the cable is intact and turning at the tach end?

As jim says, check the cable, then, if it isn't turning, follow it down and check that the bolt on the end of the crank hasn't wound itself out.

Yup, it's a good indicator, if your tach stops working then there is a good chance your oil pump isn't working as well. Best to pull the tach cable from the engine and confirm it's not that worm that has come loose on the end of the crank.

Well finally got to check the tach cable and found out what the problem was.

The cable mount is gone at the tach.

The cable was JB welded, no threads at all.

Looks like a tach rebuild needed.

You might contact Don Fulsang and see what he can suggest. His contact information is on the resource site.

I did and that is what I am going to do.

Don gave me a reasonable "guesstamit" so away it goes once I figure out how to remove.

I would not have figured this out without this forum's help.

+1 to send to Don in Florida.

Do it right and send both meters for restoration, he does a phenomenal job.
