I did a forum search on this topic but I didn't find much info. Now that HID & LED have been out for a while now, has there been anything lately to upgrade these old 7" halogens with? I saw one post listing some pricey options but didn''t list any links and wonder if there are any reasonable options today? |

Are you saying you already have the 7" automotive conversion headlight bucket with a quartz-halogen headlight? That Hella in your link is just a quartz-halogen headlight with a replaceable H4 bulb. You can get 7" LED headlights that work pretty well from companies like Truck LIte and Peterson, and others. The stock headlight was not a standard 7", and the replaceable bulb was an old style incandescent type with about as much brightness as a dim candle. |

That particular light you show is pretty low wattage - which is good for the relatively week alternator on the H2...but I know guys that have them (or similar) and they're hardly any better than stock. There are LED solutions, but I've personally tried the cheap ones - while blinding to look at, the light is neither directed nor focused and is basically useless at night ..DANGEROUS. During the day, I would say they offer better visibility than stock. The better LED lights are expensive - they draw little current, so that's a plus..but expect to pay a fair bit. Yes, that's the Truck-Lite that I mentioned above. I have one that's the same, but branded "Peterson" and it's a good headlight. There are two oddities though... One is that it sticks out of the bucket's trim ring almost an inch, and the other is that if it's daytime and someone looking at it is out of the beam, it's hard for him/her to tell that it's on. |
