That's quite strange. It doesn't make sense that they would make internal changes like the kick shaft diameter and oil pump to a model that's on it's last leg. :problem: I wonder if the KH400 got the same "updates" or if there is an unchanged "400" cover with the new logo (that would work without modification)? Obviously there is a one piece stator cover with the new logo for the KH400 CDI. Maybe RB can shed some light even if not make sense of it.
So, it looks like you just need to get this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Kawasaki-S1-S3-KH250-Buff-Generator-Cover-14031-1030-/360595302255?hash=item53f527a76f:g:gAMAAOxy~dBRH7yU&vxp=mtr
so both sides match!

I have been searching the parts files and I can find 14032-1018 and 14032-095-80 but they both reference back to 14032-1018 which is the number for most of the polished covers with the large kick shaft and the newer logo. I thought the newer logo was a KH thing but I know now that is not the case(no pun intended). I think you are correct about the case being for the later 400's but I don't know why they would have changed the shaft diameter. The clamp finish is black chromate.

Actually I believe this might have been a European bike because it had the horrible shiny back fender on it which I was more than happy to leave off.

Very likely a Canadian bike from one of the western provinces - they would have the chrome rear fender and a drum brake front wheel. Bikes from Ontario matched US bikes (for the most part).
