Hi all

I have a tank with old sure seal tank liner that has reacted and cracked and flaking off. My options are to get it stripped and re lined or just back to metal. As I store my bikes with no fuel in the tank and vented so not to get condensation. What do you guys think? What can you recommend? What's the best way to store a tank when I'm not burning holes in the ozone?

Thanks all

I regard lining as being the very last thing I would do, strip it out and see if you can see why it was done in the first place

If it's a white liner, it's probably Kreem. Not too good. POR-15 and Caswell are better products. I think you can remove the Kreem with MEK.

It was rusty in the first place after years of sitting in somebody's shed with the last bits of probably original tank liner; with so much liner falling off the tank now I can see clean steel underneath with no rot.

The liner used was sure seal. Do most owners run without a tank liner?

I certainly do, I am really trying to stay away from chemical/epoxy lining

I won't use tank lining either. I just clean the rust out of the tank with Evaporust until it's shiny clean and keep it filled with gas. I have cleaned tanks with Evaporust that most people would throw away.

With the ethanol these days, even new tanks just a few years old are rotting out. It's a lose lose, as eventually you're going to get rust through.
Caswell 2 part is the best I found.

I never line a metal tank anymore. Strip them bare with acid, neutralize, and coat with fogging oil. Too many tank lining products that fail and cause misery in the rest of the fuel system. On tank liners that are already failing, I tell customers to replace the tank. The failed lining product is incredibly tough to get fully removed, and will cause all sorts of problems down stream.
To be fair, I lined an H2 tank with POR-15 about 12 years ago and its still holding up. That tank has always had sunoco 110 leaded in it, so no ethanol.

Caswell is the best I have ever used.
