Was wondering if the H2 and the H2B/C have a different length brake torque rod, as I don't have one of those yet. Could someone please measure the center to center hole distance of theirs, I think I will just make one out of some stainless steel stock I have here. Thanks. |

I have both the speedo and tach, but they have been sitting around fir decades and the dust has crept in the light holes and now they just need to be pulled apart to be cleaned at the very least. I also tried getting them to at least move their needles with a hand turned drive in the cable opening, but I can't seem to get them to do anything. So, anyone here had luck with opening the crimp on the bezel and fixing theirs or does everyone send them out to be rebuilt elsewhere? |

Following the info about speedo rebuilding, I uncrimped the bezel on the speedo and got it apart. It would have never worked, ok, the speed needle did work and looks like the damper is ok too. But the odometers were frozen. The wheels were just gummed up, but also the last nylon gear was stuck. Once I got that lubed and working the odometers looked ok, and both sets turn and count fine. But then found the biggest problem, the first driven worm gear had flogged it's end bearing out and was jumping out of gear. I don't see any way to get the worm gear out without pressing the main input magnet out, so I am going to try machining the casting and adding a tiny bronze bearing from the outside. |

I was successful with the bronze bush, and locked it in place with a 4/40 screw. all working good now, will reassemble it after painting the needle. After what I have learned, I would never just use an old speedo again without pulling it apart and doing this. There are so many bushes that are dry and just wear themselves out, some that just run in the cast potmetal housings with no bearing at all. The one I had to fix, that shaft is doing the most speed and will wear a lot, and then jump out of mesh. All the odometer drive train in them needs cleaning and greasing big time. |
