Please remember, we are speaking of stone age steel disks and pads made of hardened silly putty. Not nearly as good as any Indy car, nor a MotoGP brake setup. Even the smallest brake setup for the smaller bikes of today are significantly better than the first Kawasaki disks and pads/calipers.

I went to fit my newly bought H2B chain guard this morning. I was suspicious of it, but now know, the aftermarket shocks I have foul the stock chain guard big time. So, this leads me down one of two paths, a new, stock looking carbon fiber guard with all the clearances it needs for better aftermarket shocks, or modify by cutting and welding the stock chain guard. The latter choice is easier, but I then cut up a now somewhat rare stock part, which I don't like to do. Plus the steel guard is godawful heavy and that weight is unsprung. A carbon one would be 25% of the stock weight, and maybe other H2B/C owners would want one as well. Hmm.

Could interest me but the cheapest way to save weigh is to ride w/o

Well I went with the easy fix, cut and welded the stock chain guard to clear the new shocks. Made sure it had enough material replaced so the back portion does not vibrate and try to crack. Will blast and powder coat next.

Well, I am jumping down the rabbit hole and I bought one, of three of course, TM34 Mikuni flat slide carbs for the H2. Seems like the VM30s are restricting it at the higher rpms. I thought it was lean, so went a main jet size richer last year, and it didn't help, and a 30mm carb is really on the small size for a 250cc cylinder, even a lower performance one like the H2 is, compared to modern MX engines etc of course. Also got the Mikuni carb mount rubber, which is a bit long but it looks like it will fit ok. Pic here of it on one of my spare cylinders, and the stock VM30 for size comparison.
I have TM38s on my XV750 and love them. Those have a smooth tapered slide bottom and also use a lean idle mixture jet. This TM34 does not have the smooth slide and has a cutout, sort of like a round slide carb, and I see it also has a much richer idle mixture jet, similar to the stock VM30 actually. So these TM34 could actually use some UFO type blocks. I will get it running and go about jetting and see how I like the low end response, if it looks like it needs it I will 3D print some UFO blocks for the TM34s.

Do you still using oil injection pump? What about the oil lines that go to float bowls??

Yes I use all the stock injection pump, but modified some. The TM34 have two bowl vent nipples up high on the sides of the carb body. will run a 5mm die over one of those and fit a female pushloc fitting to it, to use the 6mm hose it has. I will machine and fit a check valve down inside at the other end of this vent port. Note that there are two vent ports, MX bikes have some extra venting needs with odd bike angles and G loads, a street bike does not need both vents.

Got some other work done. Shortened the mufflers 1.5", I had trouble keeping them in place on the chambers with just the clamp screws I had, so welded a locating tab and figured the shorter lengths will be easier to stay mounted. Plus the bike was almost too quiet, quieter than a stock H2 I thought. And they just 'looked' too long. Went a size leaner on the mains, back to 112.5. Found the oil leak I had been looking for, it was one of the carb oil line fittings, so the oil under the crankcase was 2 stroke oil oosing from the carb fitting, down in the valley and through the carb drain holes through the cases. Got the modified chain guard powder coated and bolted on. Got the side stand toe tab welded on and working and powder coated, at least now I can put the side stand down with a foot instead of needing to reach down with my hand under the chamber to put it down. Hopefully that tab doesn't grind in a corner. Still need to do something with the mirror stems, I can't keep the mirrors tight and in place.
