Hey guys, After a good soaking for a few nights in different solutions and a fine scrubbing, viola! these turned out ok. So now I'm left with the question... What was the gooey fiberglass wrap (that was) at the end of them?? Is that fabric commonly available or some specialty stuff? Many thanks for your time! |

Fantastic! Thanks! and under ten bucks, even better. After I posted, I found the before picture.... Everyone of the [smaller] holes at the ends were clogged with black crud. took me a while to clean that all out! |

You can use pieces of a roof insulation batt for muffler packing. It delaminates into nice, workable pieces. I mean the fibreglass type, rather than the "wool" type. |

A couple of things I do, I use a torch to heat the carbon and oil deposits on the baffle, dries them out, and they come off fairly easily after that. I don't put the wrap back on, I leave the baffles just the way you have them now. |

I used common plumbing wrap from Home Depot, seemed to work good, it will need to be redone this Spring maybe I'll try your method for a change . |

The wrapping dampens the noise, in a street bike situation. I am all for considering the neighborhood, even while the Harleys are droning by at 130db-a....... |

Gets my vote and is the correct answer, the explosion reaches the end of the baffle and expands into the wadding and the noise diffuses, over the years the wadding becomes clogged and the noise increases with the wadded end technically turning into a stinger! |
