No, the KH has a big nubbie for the shift drum stop spring, that's in the way. But you should be able to get around it, if not then off comes the manifold.

It should totally come off as MRAXL has described. If the PO had larger carbs installed, the float bowl might be hitting the neutral switch which could be removed. As a last resort you could loosen and lift the cylinder.

That is what I ended up doing. Not sure why the Previous Owner did that.

Finally found some money on the money tree in the back yard (ie, got paid for soccer refereeing) and bought/mounted some new tires.
Was thinking of purchasing some Suzuki TS250 carbs? to replace the 12 bad OEM carbs I have....then some Doctor's bills totally $1,700.00 After insurance came in . So I had to pay those first. This is ridiculous!@part number%^part number. Seems to happen every time I notice cash on the money tree.

Anyways, here some of my progress in the last few weeks.Image

OK, guess my pictures were too large, so I resized them.
This week I repainted the tail light holder, as the original painter missed a lot of area, there fore rust built up.
I striped all the old powder coated paint, primer and used some rattle cans.
3 coats of primer, followed by 5 coats of black.
All coats heat treated in the wife's stove over the course of this past 5 days.
She only noticed once, when I took the part out of the stove and did not have adequate time to ventilate the house. :shh:

This week I will pick 2 of the four 350cc engines I have lying around, travel 2.25 hours to a friends house and blast them with walnuts.
I'll post after pictures. (i'm doing this mostly because I am tired of working on dirty engines.).

all the bolts are clear coated, most of the old bolts were not worth saving so I replaced them
with stainless steel hex head.Image

looks like I'm not up to speed on how to submit photos here that I store offsite....

To finally be making progress on this machine is very satisfying.

A little more progress. In between fixing the toilet, vacumn cleaner, wife's car, my car I finally put the tail light on. It's amazing the work I have put in and you really can't see it. But I know it's there.

as you will note: rust has started to build up in the tail section on the inside....It has been a project sidelined for 10+ years.

This week I will be using a friends' homebuilt sandblaster to either glass bead or walnut bead the 2 or 3 engines I have lying around. Depends on time and $ that the blasting media costs. I will also have to read up on how to do it and buy new gaskets I'm sure.

Here is a before picture:

I'm starting to notice how messy my garage is....my son has convinced me to clean up/throw away stuff. ANyone need S2 parts?

Please pardon my curiosity,
Is that a rodent on the work bench in front of the bike?

An update:

I managed to save up $2,000 and thought, "Gee I finally have enough $ to finish this restoration...." Then my car broke down and living in Vermont you need a car to get around in the winter. Damn it.

I'm almost at the point of selling my unrestored 1976 KH500 or giving up altogether. Have to do something to obtain more cash (and be able to hide it from the wife, ha ha).

Guess I will try to sell some more motorcycle parts. Where is the best place to do so now? I hear ebay is just not what it used to be w/ all their fees.

I have a few extra s1/s2's that I probably should part out. No carbs that are worth selling as they are all siezed up, even after soaking in carb cleaner then putting them in an ultrasonic cleaner.

My advice is don't spread yourself too thin doing too many projects at one time. Trust me, I speak from experience. Ebay isn't what it used to be. Now you better price it at what you want and offer free shipping. Of course the free shipping isn't really free, you just add it in to what you really want. Not much bidding anymore unless you are selling something hot and rare. I don't get much interest on craigslist selling parts but it is free and worth a shot. Nice Honda by the way.
