Ok, I have had these bikes in my garage for over 15 years, maybe 20. raising 3 kids and helping with college costs I never seemed to have enough money to do a full restore. Well, this year I decided that even though I have been unemployed for 4+ years, only making $ refereeing soccer and doing odd jobs .... the wife got a raise. I decided that this year all the $ I made would go towards restoring my 1976 CB550 (done), 1971/1972 S1/S2 and maybe my GS550e if anything is left over. Here are pictures of my progress so far this year.

and my continuing work on the Kawasaki 350 Project:

I will post more pictures of my progess if you all want.

I managed to destroy one carb yesterday, but have 10 more to play with....luckily.

While waiting for parts to come in and the carbs to finish soaking, I have started on the 1976 KH500.

Did you know the carbs are difficult to get out? Yes, it's true.
peace,
michel

I suppose you know exhausts heads and pipes are different between S1 and S2 (among other parts) even if some run with S1 pipes and S2 barrels, isn't it, Wolfie :?:

Seriously,
does anyone have advice or a youtube video on how to remove the center carb on the KH500?

Remove rh carb for accessability.
Loosen carb clamp.
Insert 12" screwdriver between carb adapter and carb front edge.
Apply pressure with screwdriver lever to push carb off while moving carb up & down.

Yep tried that, but it seems to be hitting a nut/bolt on top of the tranny.
I must be doing something wrong here.

It should totally come off as MRAXL has described. If the PO had larger carbs installed, the float bowl might be hitting the neutral switch which could be removed. As a last resort you could loosen and lift the cylinder.

You might also remove the two carb spigot nuts/washers, and see if you can remove the entire ass'y, then tackle it after placing in a vise?
