I'm getting closer!! My basket case actually looks like a motorcycle now. Engine is built and in the frame, all the parts have been replated/chromed and the brakes and wheels are on! These questions are based on parts that are missing and I've never seen. I've been doing my best to make all as OEM, but I'm having some issues for my 1960 H1:

1) is there an alternative for OEM brake and clutch perches? The OEM perches don't have mirror holes and that's all I'm seeing on
Ebay. Is there a similar off another model bike that I should be looking at?

2) Was my bike suppose to have turn signals? I see pics online with and without, parts books are ambiguous. Production date is 12/69. Candy Red.

3) Anyone know of a alternative to the OEM side stand spring?

4) What the heck is this? Is it even a H1 part? (forgive my ignorance!!)

5) Here's what it looks like now. See the tank and pipes on the shelf ready to go! Hopefully by midsummer I'll have it fired up. It just depends what else I discover I'm missing!! :wtf:

The picture of the part looks like the thing that goes on the kick starter shaft and holds the end of the spring. I hope that is a extra one you have
and not missing from your assembled motor.

Oh noooo!! I can't tell if it's in there or not.... I don't specifically remember if it's on the shaft. It was a part I found in a different box. Dang it!!!!!! The kickstarter seems to work fine, but then again, I haven't kicked it much as I'm nowhere near ready to start it up. Here's a pic right before joining the case halves...... What do you think?? What does that part do?

This may not help...

And check out used KZ400 lever perches because I believe some had a front drum but also mirrors, so these may work as a cheap alternative.

If the kickstarter lever returns fine I would guess that the spring bushing thing is installed. I have a bunch of H1 cases and I can see what will happen
if the part is left out. No fun to open up a case after a rebuild. I had to do it on my gold H2 when I had a bad 3rd gear. After that I learned how to build
a trans and not miss something like that. All part of the learning curve on these bikes.

Your part is not installed (note how the spring is offset from the shaft). How long your kick start will continue to operate properly is anyones guess.

BTW you can leave the cylinders assembled if you choose to open the lower case.

It always pays to have a good parts diagram, as things go back together! Tip it upside down, and whip the bottom off - not too bad if it's not completely together......!

They were an "optional extra"
