As some of you know, I picked up an non titled h2b from a guy over in Hagerstown I met at the local bike night. Well....its been sitting in the same condition I retrieved it in for the last couple years (a half empty frame, a stuck motor, and a bunch of parts in buckets). Over that time, I did manage to get the motor apart and inventory the bike to find out I only had about 70% of it, and the 30% it was missing was expensive parts like tins, exhaust, ect. I almost just parted it out due to it missing a lot of stuff but every time I looked at it, I changed my mind and kept it.

Last two years I've bought parts here and there for it hoping one day to rebuild it. I already talked to the dmv about titling it, and had the state police do the first step, getting the vin check. It came back clean and after state police inspection once it's built, they will issue me a title. It's been a patient journey, but I think I now have about 99% of this bike, short some oddball bolts and nuts, to throw this thing together so I piled it all up, and away I go.

I thought I'd share a few photos of my progress. Please bear in mind that the plan is to only rebuild the bike at this point, and then go back and clean up the small stuff. I think just getting the thing running and moving under its own power will be an accomplishment at this point. This is not a full resto by any means so please don't judge it as such.

Here's what I started with.......buckets and a frame. ;) in this pic, some of the rebuild work is completed. The shocks and rims are done, frames been painted, ect.

Of course the aftermarket wipers did the same thing as the ones on my S3 after a couple years. I replaced these with genuine Kawasaki parts. Anyone else have this issue?

Image

Repop seat from hvc cycle. I didn't feel like getting a rough seat and have to go through it. I might throw an original on it and sell this one at a later date.

Image

K2tek chambers. These were very nice and are out getting powder coated at the moment.

Image

Charlie's crank with slotted rods, rebuilt tranny, all new bearings throughout.

Image

Front end assembly. New fork tubes and seals, z1 ears and trim hardware used, new head bearings. Since decent fork ears are unobtanium for this bike, I've opted for this. I wanted it to looks stock for the most part.

Image

Swing arm has new bushings and new shocks from Jess. Bike had to be upside down so I could true the wheels and mount.

Image

Image

Wheels are now trued, tires are mounted and installed, and now it's right side up. Ignore the mess....my garages are full of bikes and lawn equipment and the storage area of the basement is he only place I can put it at the moment.

Image

It don't look to bad I think.

Image

Engines mounted and some other things installed.

Image

Engine looks good in there.

Image

Wheel has new bearings, seals, shoes, spokes, and rubber.

Image

Front has new spokes, bearings, seals, ect.

Image

As it sits currently. I'm hoping to be picking up my powder coated chambers this week. Moo has my cylinders for bore and will be throwing a reed kit on it. I still have a ways to go but I've got a good start on it. i hope to hit it some more over Christmas holiday.

So far the Z1/kz ears don't look too far outta place. My H2B came with ears that need rechromed, I was looking at kz ones for a stand in

The Z1 bits look fine on the bike. You will have to remove about 1" from the bottom but other than that, a straight forward fit. If you go that route, I wouldn't cut the ears off to match the H2B ears if you are using the tapered head bearings. Those bearings space the trees a shade further apart than the original bearings do. Its best to load the triple trees with the bearings in place, rotate the top tree far enough to slip the Z1 bits on, load the ear on upside down, and rotate the ear around the shock tube and sharpie a line around what needs removed while rotating the ear. These came out perfect without the need of additional rubber washers.

i thought you all might like to see the paint choice. I do have a question though. I've been going through this wiring harness trying to figure out all the connections. I think I have a connection for everything on the back end but the plug in the picture......I can't seem to figure out where it plugs in to. :eh: I looked at the wiring diagram but the only 3 pin plug I see if for the meter lights, but this one is on the back end of the harness. Anyone know where it goes? looks like the regulator plug you find on the S3.

Oh yea......whoever sold me this gas tank for a song......the tank in the pic is your tank. I appreciate the great price you gave me on it.

I got a call from the powdercoaters............the chambers are done.

User,
It looks like the brake light failure module plug.
The mod looks like a small rectangular rubber coated 3 wire contraption/gizmo.
;)
Nice bike!
