I have a few otherwise nice calipers which I'd like to freshen and am looking for a good source for replacement pistons. Have had no luck finding NOS 43048-001 so I ordered a repro from one of the vendors and received an "MF Quality Product" part #283835 and dimensions are quite a bit different from an original. While diameter is .001 smaller than the original overall height is .040 taller, o-ring groove is .040 larger root diameter and .025 wider.

Two of the calipers I want to rebuild are original right side calipers and I would like to do a nice job on them. I considered ordering a repro piston from everyone who can supply one just to see what's out there but am thinking some of you more experienced folks here might have the answer.

Thanks, Rusty34

Thank you mraxl! Looks like others are experiencing the same problem with replacement caliper pistons made in China. I wouldn't be surprised if the MF brand piston I recently received was also made in China though it does not say anywhere on the box. I saw where someone suggested HVC so I checked them out and their's are made of stainless steel and priced at $25.95. The originals and a few of the repros have thin chrome plate and it is the plating which is failing on my original parts, small spots where it is lifting and chipping off. I'll order one from HVC and take a look at it.

Same piston is used in a good few triples.
Maybe look for decent used ones?

I just received a stainless steel replacement caliper piston from HVC and all dimensions match the original.

I have a piston I paid a fortune for from Italy years ago.
I'll find and measure as I doubt if I will use it

+1. I also obtained one of their stainless pistons for my S2A caliper rebuild.
