Kick start always seems to be a "problem" for my wife and so I have been looking at the rd200 for her. The specs have it as 30hp the same as an RD250? And it weighs less. I know little about Yamaha's and nothing about the RD200. Looks like a nice little bike for her, any comments appreciated.

very nice bike, light and the front brake on the drum model is the same as R5 350. 85 MPH +. Lovely to ride
There is no weak point excepted carbs parts are difficult to find and you can need them as all the Yammies two stroke from the period are very sensitive to bad cabs specialy worn jet needles and needle jets.
With the reeds, the engine is of course smoother than the previous CS5E made before but a VGC CS5E can be also considered.
Bodies parts and exhausts are not also an easy find. UK have some engine parts and E bay Singapor too. Buy one with GC or VGC exhausts and if the seller says just an ignition set up beware it's usually worn carbs and the seller couldn't get the parts
Should add a RD 250 is a litter faster with better acceleration but on twisties roads with a good driver you easlly follow a RD 250

Don't rule out the 74-and up 20-hp Suzuki GT185's. They don't have reeds like the RD's, but it does have the "Ram Air" single-unit head, rubber mounts, front disc brake, and electric start. I'm doing a little bit of work on mine at the moment - front/rear wheel bearings, tires/tubes, rear shoes, and swing-arm bushing replacement.

Cool, thanks for the pointers. Small is better for my wife as long as the thing will get out of it's own way. The RD200 sounds pretty good. I rode around mid ohio on that exact same Suzuki last year. Nice little bike but the reed torque help would be good for wifey due to her hesitancy to twist the throttle.

Seems the specs are varied? I googled the specs to be 30hp and your specs gives 22? I see the weight given as 254lb and other sites are much more??? Three different weights dry? And much more. Head is spinning.

No way in hell a 200 would have 30 hp.

don't think the gearbox had 6 speeds too
early hasn't for sure

Shift pattern is standard down for first.

What were they thinking when they did that photography - I can't believe Yam really made them with the horn hanging out from the bottom yoke like that



Here is a lovely one I've seen a few times in a hospital I regularly visit, and the horn is under the tank
