I had an '84 FY1100 bought used back from 1988-1990. I loved the bike. My mistake was replacement of the O ring chain with a non O ring chain. Chain let go and busted cases thus rendering a great bike into a parts bike. Live and learn!

Good point, thanks for the post and bringing that up.

I bit the bullet and bought a top of the line tzubaki chain when it came time to replace it.

The guy at the shop shook his head as I ordered it, tried to sell me a less expensive chain.

Like many here, I learned a long time ago that sometimes when you spend less it costs you more.

My only issue with the bike is me, I tend to ride it like it likes to run. Not that I would admit to going 68 miles in 45 minutes or anything, but, well, if you have ridden one, you know....

The Yamaha FJ1200 is one of those bikes which lasts forever, and keeps doing the job - too big for me tho!!
