My dear friend Doug Bell cut up some scrap aluminium and made a patch for the hole... He is 75 years young and tough as a pine knot....

We tried to TIG the patch on and couldn't run a bead to save us. Doug said the pores of the metal had oil in it. I had soaked the can in the parts washer and sprayed it with carb carb cleaner but later learned from Mark Haase that it needed to be heated and cleaned until clean. Long story short we elected to tack the four corners of the patch and do a caveman JB weld seal.on the patch. Once mounted it will not be noticeable as it will be turned in...

Not pretty but functional and no leaks with my palm over the can and air in the outlet hole pressure test with the can immersed in a bucket of water.

I am a fabricator and tinkerer, I like making my own specialty tools, and fixing stuff. I do that for just about everybody here. If I'd have had those silencers apart, I think I'd have made them into a set of bolt-on's, instead of keeping them one piece to the pipe. Just my tinkering coming out.

Sanded with a medium sponge sanding block, then 600, 800, 1000 and 2000 grit wet or dry tri-my and polished with red, then white rouge.

Thanks!
On to the other side, hopefully during this break from work and mount them up...

FPPS installed. They slid right on the Toomey flanges and I borrowed the springs from my other set of FPPs that used to be on the Phoenix. Rode to town to get a haircut... Runs most excellent. No burbles or flat spots. I enhanced community relations with a nice stand up power wheelie in 1st out of an intersection showing my arse in front of a group of Harleys...Not bad for $208 shipped...

Initial impression: maybe a touch less bottom end rolling from a stop. Exhaust tone lower and quieter. Revs quicker than the Toomeys.

I got my farm chores for today before work done early and was able to fit in a 30 mile ride.... Seat of the pants the FPPs do everything as good or better than the Toomeys except taking off from a dead stop. The FPPs require more revs to move off...
