I agree little Yamahas are a blast! Built this one last summer, a YL1 100 twinjet.  Made some rear-sets, modified some side bleed moped pipes.  The tires are super sticky Hutchinsons, visor from a flight helmet for a windscreen.  60's GranPrix racing at 60mph  Lots of parts left over from this build, see For Sale section. |

Nice looking Yamaha twin. I just know it is so much fun to ride. There are not a lot of these great early bikes left around, what a shame. In my front room, I have a Twin Jet 100. Out in the storage, two 200 twins, a YDS3C Big Bear Scrambler, and a low pipe 305. I also have a few rotary valve singles as well. And, 12 Bridgestone singles and twins. |

To go a bit further with M's "bleed pipe". the stinger and muffler are under the rest of the expansion chamber, as is done on a lot of both 2 stroke go-carts and snowmobiles. The rear of the rear cones are closed off, and the bleed pipe is taken close to the junction of the center section and rear cones. This makes the stinger a simple pressure bleed, not a tuning device any longer. A Kawasaki triple racer from the early to mid-1970's, the late George Roche, used to build exhaust pipes for racing. They were conventional for the time, and had one difference from others. The stinger was half way into the rear cone, halfway out. The stingers that way quieted down the pipe note a bit, made no increase in power and/or torque. |
