RZ350 kills batteries?

Post subject:  RZ350 kills batteries?
Connected a recently charged battery to the bike and turned ignition on - all electrics dead. Tried another battery, also newly charged. Same thing. Plugged the battery into the charger and the battery was flat, or at least heavily discharged. Left it to recharge and tried it on the bike again and still nothing happens.

Checked all fuses and they are fine.

What are the chances both batteries are crap or is it something else going on here? :think:

I'm picking up a brand new battery tomorrow but I'm hesitant to try it. Maybe it just results in a ruined battery?

I'd try the new battery. Be sure you have 12+ volts.

I'd measure the current drain with everything off. You can set a meter to a scale like 10 or 20 amps, remove the battery ground connection, and use the meter to reconnect it. Make sure everything is off first. If you get a very low reading, you can then set the meter to a more sensitive scale to get a good reading. Even a 1/4 amp load will discharge the battery in a day.

Never got to the electrics today, but the handlebar shaped clip inside the headlight have to one of the worst pieces of junk ever designed. Can't for the life of me figure out how it's supposed to be installed. :banghead

I think we've all been thru it with those headlight clips. I think I re-learn how to get them in every time I work on one. It is rather difficult to explain. I believe the next time I have mine apart I will make a video for myself and others. I am sure someone here has one apart already and has mastered the art of those buggers. Or maybe a Moo production....

Maybe not the case ? But could be a possibility.The power valve on the RZ350 draws a LOT of power from the battery."EVERY time you turn the ignition on it cycles". If you don't have a big enough strong enough battery and you don't run the bike long enough it can drain the battery.At least that is in part what we have experienced with the RZ350 my brother has.Kept killing and draining the battery so he tried a bigger battery.
May be something else killing the battery but just thought I would suggest looking into that.

Be sure that the new battery is charged at 1/2 amp per hour before using

The RZ should start and run with no battery. If all the electrics are dead as you say you may have more wrong than a dead battery.
Do you have an electrical schematic.
Usally poblem areas are the handle bar switch and connections in the birds nest headlight bucket.

Brother had a brand new battery in his RZ 350.It kept going dead.And quickly.Almost as soon as you turned the ignition on.Bike fired up and ran OK.Put a bigger battery in it.OK NOW.The smaller new battery went back in his RD 350 LC.And working well in the RD 350 LC.And RZ battery fine now too.All OK now.
