Yeah Barry, it's quite a procedure, isn't it?. I have the stuff on the head pipes of my Guzzi and my EX250 and heat doesn't bother it a bit. The trick is to follow enough of the curing procedure to make it stick. It's really like glass when it's cured, so it can be chipped easily if not stuck well. I've had to touch up spots a couple times.

It's great stuff, Tim, but the hard part is going to be getting the later parts of the chambers hot enough to cure it. I think only a 22 mile sustained WOT run through the dragon would be successful.

....if you are able to put the back-end of those pipes in the oven for a couple of hours on "Hi" while the "better half" is out shopping, (and then get rid of the smell), it would be beneficial..... :)

Rod, the problem is that the procedure involves baking at 250F for 1/2 hour, cool for 1/2 hour, bake at 400 for 1/2 hour, cool for 1/2 hour, bake at 600 1/2 hour! The kitchen ovens I have access to won't go to 600F unless I set them to "clean", and then I think they get up to something like 900F.

The "on vehicle" procedure is easier if you're painting car headers, but expansion chambers never get anywhere near 600F in their rear halves. But who knows, maybe eventually they'll cure fine. Tim will lead the way in this technology!

Good points Jim, especially the need for a sequence of hot cold cycles. My experience has been to get them Hot as you can, (admittedly black pipes in a 40+ degrees Aussie sun, and an oven, flat out, and repeat). They will cure eventually. I would, being a spray painter and a Triples Nut, paint the Header pipes in Hi-Temp VHT or equivalent, and just paint the rest of the pipes in any good 2-pack Black, grey, whatever - as you say the back just doesn't get hot enough, ( to trouble a good 2-pack paint). May be something to consider....! :think:

I warmed the pipes up with my propane torch before I shot them. I am contrmplating warming the new paint up a couple cycles as well hopefully without scorching or blistering....

Today is test ride day... The sealant on the chamber flanges has been curing for 20 hours or so. Gonna head out in a few and crank it up for a heat cycle or two on the chamber paint. Yesterday we had a couple of up close and personal sessions with my heat gun so we will see how they do. Either way we gonna put a few miles on the RD today :D :D

Test ride x 2 yesterday and 1 today. Wheelies were pulled, ass was hauled.
All thats left is a good detailing and load it on the trailer...I love the Avon rear tire. I am a convert. BT 45 is a good tire but the Avons are so much better in my opinion and you can get 2 shipped for under $200...The VHT 1000 deg paint is apparently cured and so far is holding up well...
